How to Locate and Add ArtNet Devices in Madrix 5

Setting up your ArtNet devices in Madrix 5 is a crucial step in building your DMX control network.

Madrix makes it easy to discover hardware from various manufacturers—including Madrix Nebula, Advatek, and Digidot—all within a single interface. Here is a simple, step-by-step guide to discovering your ArtNet devices and activating them as DMX outputs.

Step 1: Open the Device Manager

To begin configuring your hardware, you need to access the Device Manager:

Navigate to Preferences in the top menu and select Device Manager.

Alternatively, you can simply press F4 on your keyboard to open the manager immediately.

Step 2: Enable and Search for ArtNet Devices

Once the Device Manager window is open:

Click on the ArtNet tab.

Ensure the Enable checkbox is selected in the upper right corner.

Click the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the window to search the network.

Madrix will now scan for available hardware. You should see your devices (such as a Madrix Nebula, Advatek A4S Mark III, or Digidot C4) appear in the list.

Step 3: Verify Universes

Before proceeding, quickly review the list to confirm that Madrix has detected the correct number of universes for each of your devices. Ensuring this information is accurate now prevents patching issues later.

Step 4: Activate DMX Devices

By default, newly discovered devices are set to a "disabled" state. To activate them:

Switch to the DMX Devices tab.

Select all devices in the list (you can use Ctrl + A to select all quickly).

Hold Shift and double-click the "State" column for one of the selected devices.

The state for all selected devices should switch to "On," meaning they are now ready to receive ArtNet data.

Step 5: Save and Finish

Click OK at the bottom of the Device Manager. Your devices are now patched and ready to output DMX data from Madrix 5.

Quick Tip

If your devices do not appear after clicking the search icon, double-check that your computer's network card is set to the correct IP range (typically 2.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x for ArtNet) and that your firewall isn't blocking Madrix.
