Wired for the Road: How We Helped Deliver Erasure’s ‘The Neon’ Tour

When Erasure’s ‘The Neon’ Tour was gearing up post-lockdown, the team needed a reliable way to deliver over 600 metres of RGB neon across a custom steel set. With tight timeframes and a hands-on approach to production, the show required a fast, road-ready infrastructure to bring the design to life.

That’s where envisio came in, we didn’t design the lighting but we helped make it tourable by amending and implementing a design. We installed the 600 metres of RGB neon and engineered a simplified wiring system. From loom design to custom-built distribution boxes, making the rig easy to assemble and maintain on the road.

Turning the Design Into a Reality

Wiring looms for touring

We created plug-and-play wiring looms with tourable connectors, giving the team a reliable way to set up the neon quickly at each venue. These looms were road-ready and labelled clearly to reduce setup errors.

Touring distribution boxes

We built robust distribution boxes with panel-mount connectors to interface with both neon profiles used in the design, a rounded bull-nose profile and a flat-top profile. Each distribution box was designed to support repeated setup and teardown across a long tour.

Assembly and pre-fabrication support

We joined the team at Video Design’s workshop in Milton Keynes to complete the neon integration. Our work included soldering, fitting, and final prep to make sure every section of RGB neon was ready for the road.

Context and Collaboration

The Neon Tour was designed by Chris Bushell, with video content by Rob Sinclair and production led by Mark Dawson. Rather than work through a single set fabricator, the team approached the show with a more DIY mindset, combining efforts between Set Works, Video Design, and various suppliers to keep momentum during pandemic-era supply challenges.

The wider rig featured an impressive range of fixtures, including Martin by Harman MAC Viper Profiles, Axiom, Quantum Washes, MAC Aura XBs, GLP JDC1s, and Chroma-Q Color Force II units, the latter used as vertical blinders. These helped shape the tour’s vibrant, high-energy look while complementing the glow of the neon.

While Video Design supplied the LED fixtures and structure, we were brought in to solve the RGB neon infrastructure, building a solid foundation of cabling, connectors, and distro boxes to keep everything running smoothly.

Tour-Ready, Show After Show

From the outside, Erasure’s ‘The Neon’ Tour was a bold spectacle of colour and light. Behind the scenes, it relied on carefully built infrastructure to work show after show. By delivering a clean, tour-ready solution for the RGB neon system, we helped the production stay efficient, safe, and consistent across every venue. We’re used to designing for reliability, and it was great to contribute to a show with such strong visual identity.

Our work on the neon infrastructure was also featured in TPi Magazine, highlighting the collaboration behind the scenes and the scale of the neon integration.
